Basic T-Shirt Estimate

How Many Shirts Do I Need For My Tour?

Several Bands have asked about this, so here is a little explanation about merchandise forecasting. This will help you with the age old question of how much merchandise to buy for a tour. It does require that you keep records of how much of each item that you sell every night. If you keep records, forecasting is very simple.

1) Figure out how many shirts of each design that you are selling on average per night. For example: If you have done 20 shows and sold 120 shirts of design A, then your average sale is 6 shirts per show of design A.

Total shirts sold of a design divided by the number of shows it took to sell them equals the average number of shirts sold of that design per show. If you have kept no records, you will have to just guess at how many you are selling per show.

2) Take the average number of shirts sold per show times the number of shows you have left to figure out how many more shirts that you need. In our example above, we figured that we were selling 6 shirts a show of design A. If we have 30 more shows to go, then we will need 180 more shirts of design A.
6 x 30 equals 180.

3) Some other things to consider that might increase or decrease your forcast number. If the shows coming up are better than the previous shows, you might want to increase the number that you order. If the shows are not as good or you have already sold these designs in those cities, you might want to decrease the number. Remember, this is just a guidline to help. Make sure you use your best judgement.
